Dainik Prantajyoti (Bengali: দৈনিক প্রান্তজ্যোতি) is a Bengali daily newspaper published from Silchar, Assam. It is the oldest news daily of the north east India flagged off its journey as a fortnightly on 12th January, 1957 in the name style (Jyoti). After few issues Jyoti became weekly. The name was then changed to Prantojyoti as another Paper was already in existence bearing the same name. It was in the year 1961 when entire Barak Valley was turbulent to fight out government's decision to scrap the rights of Bengali language. The legendary media person of Barak Valley Jyotirindra Chandra Dutta popularly known as Kalada was the founder editor of Prantojyoti. He started a news daily Telegram in the form of a Postcard to depict the development of the mass agitation on daily basis for the readers. Being inspired by the overwhelming support to Telegram he came out with the first ever news daily of the region Dainik Prantojyoti.
